Roy V. Cook

Mr. Roy V. Cook, 79, of Marion, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at his residence.

Cook was born in Avery County on July 3, 1933, to the late Carl Cook and Mary McClellan Cook. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served faithfully. He worked for American Thread Company for many years and ultimately retired from there.

A long-time member of Fairview Baptist Church in Avery County, he recently transferred his letter to West Court Baptist Church in Marion and enjoyed the fellowship of his church family there.

He loved his family and friends and they will miss him very much.

His wife, Bertie Hughes Cook, a daughter, Beatrice Anderson, and a grandson, Shane Greene, preceded him in death.

Surviving are three children, Dewey Cook and his wife, Jackie, of Marion, Dexter Cook of Glenwood and Dawn Ceja and her husband, Mark, of Richmond, Va.; a brother, William Cook of Tennessee; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A service in celebration of his life was held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at West Court Baptist Church with the Rev. Ross Lewis officiating. The family received friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial with military rites followed in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery in Avery County.
