Shirley Coffey Perry
Shirley Coffey Perry, 70, of Lenoir, passed away on Wednesday,
Jan. 18, 2012. Born Jan. 16, 1942, in Avery County, Perry was a daughter of the late George Dewey
and Elva Mae Gragg Coffey. She was the perfect mom, sister and aunt, who had lots of friends and
loved the Lord.
She had worked as a seamstress and had retired from Caldwell County School System’s Wrap-Around Program. She was an active member of New Life Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. She was a member of Thankful Thursday Prayer Group and was active with the prison ministry’s Re-Entry Program.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Norma Coffey Woodie, George Hubert Coffey, Ruby Coffey Greene and Essie Coffey Logan.
She is survived by her two sons, Kevin Guinn Walker and Faron Scott Walker, both of Lenoir; two sisters, Dot Dellinger and husband Samuel of Lenoir; Nelda Coffey and husband Doug of Hudson, and many other relatives.
A celebration of Perry’s life was held Saturday, Jan. 21, at New Life Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Hawkins officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Pete Clark, Pete Richards, Shawn Smith, Clyde Wayne Lackey, Eddie Rogers, Doug Phillips and James Huffman.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be made to: New Life Baptist Church, 2111 Walt Arney Road, Lenoir, N.C. 28645.
