Ted Nathan Hicks

Ted Nathan Hicks, 59, of Norwood Hollow Road, Banner Elk, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 17, 2014, at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.

Hicks was born March 2, 1954, in Avery County, a son of Rosa Violet Harmon Hicks and the late Ray Hicks. He was a farmer on his own farm and was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his mother, Hicks is survived by one brother, Leonard Hicks and wife, Linda Kay, of Piney Flats, Tenn.; three sisters, Dorothy Jean Odom and Kathy Tribble and husband, Kenneth, all of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Juanita Simerly and husband, Jerry, of Hampton, Tenn.; an aunt, Nell Presnell of Banner Elk; three nephews, Troy Simerly and Shane Simerly of Hampton, and Daniel Hicks of Piney Flats; and one niece, Ashley Robinson and husband, Scott, of Piney Flats. He is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services for Hicks will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state at the chapel from 1 to 2 p.m. The Rev. Richard Trivette will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hicks Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hicks family, in care of Leonard Hicks, 218 Old Mountain Road, Banner Elk, NC 28604.
