Trusty Buchanan Hughes

Trusty Buchanan Hughes, 82, of Jerry’s Creek Road, Newland, died Friday evening, Sept. 14, 2012, at her sister's home, Trula Hughes. Born March 3, 1930, in Avery County, she was a daughter of Decatur and Joda Burleson Buchanan. Hughes was a member of the Roaring Creek Freewill Baptist Church, and was a housewife and homemaker.

She is survived by three brothers, Moil Buchanan, Coy Buchanan, and Franklin Buchanan and wife, Alveda, all of Newland; and three sisters, Trula Hughes, and Brooksey Young, both of Newland, and Joyce Catron, of Navarre, Ohio. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl William Hughes.

Funeral services for Hughes will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at the Roaring Creek Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Jody Almond, the Rev. Roger Boone, and the Rev. Troy Smith. The family will receive friends 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at the Hughes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Medi-Home Hospice, P.O. Box 1357, Newland, NC 28657.
