Virginia Naomi Barrier

Virginia Naomi Barrier, 95, went to eternal peace April 6, 2013.

A retired educator, librarian, and alumnus of Duke University, she was an avid gardner, and book lover. Barrier was born May 16, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and grew up in Westfield, N.J., before settling in western North Carolina.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry Mac Connell and Esther Van Slyck Leon; her husband Arlee Barrier; and survived by her daughter, Lynda Rhem Lineberry; a son, Grayson Leon Waldrop; a sister, Henrietta Parker; and her daughter, Deborah Parker; as well as, three grandchildren, Kirk Robert Lundell, Stacey Lundell Barnes, and Matthew Van Slyck Waldrop.

A visitation will be held at Barrier's home 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013.

Graveside services will be held at the George W. Barrier Cemetery, 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Pineola Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m., following the graveside service.
