Vonceil Hughes McKinney

Vonceil Hughes McKinney, 85, of Marion, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, at her residence with her loving family by her side.
Born in Avery County on Sept. 30, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Deppie Grindstaff Hughes.
A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, McKinney loved her flowers, but most of all, she adored and cherished her family and the time spent with them. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Avery County.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 57 years, Ray D. McKinney of the home; three children, Rita McKinney Peterson and husband, Loyd, of Marion, Van McKinney of Marion, and Melinda McKinney Smith and husband, Rodney, of Nebo; one brother, Guy Hughes of Clemmons; and two grandchildren, Brett Sawyer and Erika Smith also survive.
A funeral service was held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Wood and the Rev. Junior Peterson officiating. Interment followed at Hughes Cemetery in Avery County.
The family received friends from 2 to 3 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the church.

Westmoreland Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
