William Lester Puckett Jr.

William Lester Puckett Jr., 82, of Banner Elk, passed away on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center. 



A native of Avery County, he was born Aug. 26, 1929, a son of the late William Lester and Carrie Chappell Puckett Sr.



He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where he taught the adult Sunday school class for 34 years. 



Puckett owned the apple orchard in Banner Elk. 



Along with his parents, Puckett was preceded in death by: a son, David Puckett; and brothers, Herman Puckett, Maxwell Puckett and Frank Puckett. 



Puckett has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Shirley of the home; sons, Stephen and Deborah Puckett of Banner Elk, Thomas Puckett of Banner Elk; daughters, Linda and Robert Hertler of Miami, Fla., Elizabeth Ann “Betty” and Forrest Ritchey of Winston Salem, Martha and Joe Hartley of Roan Mountain. Tenn., Theresa Puckett of Marion; brother, Chester and Jean Puckett of Banner Elk; daughter-in-law, Pam Puckett of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister-in-law, JoAnn Puckett of Montgomery, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 



Funeral services for Puckett were conducted on Thursday, Jan. 12 at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Luther Carver, Rev. Timothy Ruppard and Rev. Forrest Ritchey officiating. Interment followed in Mount Calvary Church Cemetery.
