Avery Lady Vikings softball traveled to Ledger on Tuesday, April 9, to take on rival Mitchell in a Western Highlands Conference showdown. Avery trailed by as many as eight runs early in the contest, but battled back to make a game of it. MHS found a way to hold on over the final frames to hand the Lady Vikings a 10-6 defeat.
The Lady Mountaineers started with a bang, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning to build an early lead. Avery rallied in its half of the second inning to score once, cutting Mitchell's lead to three runs. MHS continued to put pressure on the Lady Vikings, however, as a five-run third inning put the Lady Mountaineers in the driver's seat with a commanding 9-1 advantage.
