AHS Lady Vikings golf dominates at Mountain Glen

Avery Lady Vikings golf continues to play high-quality matches on the links as the season rolls toward the conference and regional tournaments.
The Big Red competed on Monday, Sept. 24, at Red Fox Country Club near Hendersonville. The Lady Bearcats won the event with a team score of 124, with the Lady Vikings earning second place, carding a score of 153, 18 strokes better than Owen and 25 strokes better than Polk County.
On Thursday, Sept. 27, the Lady Vikings hosted its first event of the season at Mountain Glen Golf Club. The team shot 134 for the nine-hole event, with Enka finishing second with 149. Mountain Heritage shot 151 as a group, with 173 from A.C. Reynolds.
Individual low scorer at Mountain Glen was freshman Paige Church, who fired a 44 for her round. Senior Nikki Wright matched Church's score with a 44 of her own. Senior Kristen Burleson carded a 46 and none of the Lady Vikings top five scorers shot greater than 51 for the event.
The Lady Vikings returns to the course this week with matches at Hendersonville Country Club and Meadowbrook Golf Club. The team plays a practice round for the upcoming WHC Golf Tournament at Grassy Creek in Spruce Pine this Monday, Oct. 8.
