At 6:30 p.m. last Friday, June 7, the Avery County High School Class of 2013 was honored in commencement exercises at MacDonald Stadium.

Avery High School and Avery Board of Education conferred high school diplomas to 138 seniors. This year’s senior class earned scholarships in excess of $750,000.

A pair of musical performances, one by seniors Paige Henderson and Daniel Jones, as well as a performance by senior Katie Winkler, accented the commencement.

Each of Avery's three honor speakers, honor graduate Kelly Jimenez, salutatorian Lexi Lane and valedictorian Alexis Usko, shared words of wisdom and advice in their addresses to their classmates.
