Kylie Polsgrove and Tyrell Hughes turned in qualifying times at regional competition in Cherokee last week to punch their respective tickets to the NCHSAA 1A Cross Country Championships.

Polsgrove brought home seventh place in the girls meet, while Hughes finished seventh in the men's race. Avery sent 10 runners total to the meet. The following runners competed, with finishing position in parentheses:

Girls: Kara Polsgrove (17th), Shannon Smith (30th), Jodi Poore (51st) and Kelly Magner (67th).

Boys: Will Jordan (30th), Ben Clark (67th), Alex Clark (82nd) and Brett Haas (85th).

Hughes and Polsgrove will run on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Beeson Park in Kernersville in the NCHSAA 1A State Cross Country Championships.
