Avery golf advances to state championships with regional runner-up finish

Avery High School men’s golf advanced to the NCHSAA 1A State Golf Championships for the second-consecutive season with a runner-up finish at last week’s 1A Western Regional at Mill Creek Country Club in Franklin.



Avery shot a team score of 334, just 10 shots off the pace of regional champion Lake Norman Charter. Hayesville finished third with a score of 342 and Murphy and Highland Tech tied for fourth place with team scores of 349. Lake Norman Charter, Avery and Hayesville advance to the state tournament that was played earlier this week in a two-day tournament at Chapel Hill Country Club.
