Avery soccer drops pair of matches in non-conference action

Avery Vikings soccer squared off with a pair of Burke County foes last week in friendly soccer action.

On Monday, Aug. 26, Avery played host to Patton High School at MacDonald Stadium, with the Panthers prevailing by a 2-0 final score. Avery traveled to Morganton two days later to square off against a talented Freedom club, as the Patriots defeated the Vikings by an 8-1 final score.

Avery and Patton played a close affair for much of the match, battling to a scoreless tie through the first 40 minutes of action. The Panthers drew first blood in the match, however, with a goal from Aiman Hussein in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 advantage.

The score remained unchanged until the match's 75th minute, when Patton's Elvis Morales found the back of the net for an insurance goal that proved to be the final margin of victory.
