Avery softball drops home opener to Polk County

Avery High School softball was able to use its playing field for one of the few times this season as it hosted Polk County in a Western Highlands Conference matchup. The Lady Wolverines defeated Avery by a narrow 3-2 score in the first meeting between the clubs in Columbus earlier this season, but the rematch was one-sided from the outset, as an eight-run first inning helped propel the Lady Wolverines to a 20-0 win in four innings.
Avery picked up four hits in the contest off Polk County starting pitcher Katie Ruff. Avery starter Paige Moody pitched well, but the PCHS hitters managed to place hits in key locations away from the Lady Vikings fielders.
