Avery Lady Vikings volleyball found its way into the win column in a pair of matches last week, but opened its week with a four-set loss on the road in Miller's Creek against West Wilkes on Monday, Aug. 26. Avery's junior varsity team also fell to West in two sets.

The Lady Blackhawks made it a clean sweep against the Big Red, as West defeated Avery on the road a week earlier.

"West has a good team. They're solid hitter and servers, just an overall solid team," Avery head volleyball coach Mitchell McKinney said. "We played with them the entire match, but we need our girls to get to the point that we have a killer instinct. We can't be timid, regardless of whether we're up two sets or down two sets."

The next evening, Avery welcomed Ashe County for a rematch of the Lady Vikings victory in Jefferson the previous week. Avery bounced back from the West match to dominate the Lady Huskies. Avery's junior varsity Lady Vikings won in two sets, while the varsity club swept Ashe in three sets for the win.
