Lady Vikings soccer begins season at Freedom Tournament

Serena Smith / Special to The Avery Journal-Times

Despite last week’s inclement weather, the Avery Lady Vikings soccer team got in more games than days of school. The team struggled in its regular-season opener as it played Hibriten in its opener at the Freedom Tournament in Morganton. Hibriten gave the Big Red opportunities to score, but Avery could not capitalize in dropping its opener by a 2-0 final score.

Copious rains and wet field conditions caused the second round of the tournament to be postponed and played on Thursday, March 7. Avery was in a tough bracket at the tournament and was paired against Watauga for its second contest.
