Avery Lady Vikings tennis hosted conference contender Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy on Monday, Sept. 9, at ACHS Tennis Complex. Avery battled to the final point, but came up short in singles and doubles matches against the Gryphons.

Avery’s closest-competed match was at No. 1 singles, as AHS junior Lindsay Wiseman took on TJCA’s Abbi Wood. Wiseman fell behind early in the match, only to rally to tie the match at eight games apiece. Wood regrouped, however, to capture the final two games in the match to win by a 10-8 final score.

“Lindsay had another good match. She admitted she wasn’t quite as focused pre-game and had higher expectations, since she had played so well against Polk,” AHS head tennis coach Serena Smith said. “She got down on herself early, but came back to play a highly competitive match.”

In other singles action, No. 2 Savannah Church was defeated 10-2 by TJCA opponent Kira Jordan, while No. 6 Madison Johnson won a pair of games in a 10-2 loss to Kerina Patel. AHS players were unable to capture games in remaining singles matches.
