Avery Lady Vikings tennis sent singles player Lindsay Wiseman and doubles team Ollianne Raney and Savannah Church to Elkin last week for the 1A Western Regional individual playoffs.

Wiseman represented the Big Red in singles competition and took on Sha’Nisha White from East Wilkes. Wiseman battled throughout the match, but came up short by a 6-3, 6-1 final score.

“White had an awesome first serve that helped her win several games,” AHS head tennis coach Serena Smith said. “They both played a defensive style of tennis, so the points were generally long.”

The Lady Vikings also was represented by the doubles team of sophomore Church and freshman Raney, who took on the doubles team of Rachel Poston and Ilya Wang from Gray Stone Day High School. Avery earned the first game of the match, but the Poston/Wang tandem proved too much to overcome, with Church/Raney falling by the final match score of 6-1, 6-1.
