Lady Vikings volleyball endures a rough week

Kortnie Curry / (

The Lady Vikings volleyball team had a rough week on the road. The team traveled to take on the top two teams in the conference this week. The week started off with the team traveling to Hendersonville to battle the Lady Bearcats on Tuesday, Oct. 2. The team continued on the road on Thursday, Oct. 4, to take on Polk.
Earlier in the season, the Lady Vikings fell to Hendersonville in a five-set thriller. AHS came very close to winning before but ultimately fell to the Lady Bearcats. The second match up between the teams ended in three straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-14.
“We did not play that badly as Hendersonville played very well. We really had a good second set, but could not hold on to with it,” added coach Jimmy Tilley.
On Thursday, Oct. 4, the team traveled to Polk to battle the top team in the conference. The Lady Vikings also lost this match in three straight sets with scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-8.
As the week concludes, the team stands with an overall record of 12-6 and 6-5 in the conference. The final games in regular season play will be crucial to the Lady Vikings season.
The team traveled to Madison on Tuesday, Oct. 9, for a 4:30 conference match up. The Lady Vikings will return home on Thursday, Oct. 11, to take on Mountain Heritage. This match will be the last home match for the Lady Vikings and will be senior night. This match will also begin at 4:30 p.m.
“This week is an important week,” said Tilley. “We need to get back on the winning track headed into the end of conference play if we want to make it to the state playoffs.”
