It was a week the Cloudland boys’ basketball team would like to have back. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a reset button.
The ‘Landers saw nonconference foe Johnson County steal a 52-51 victory with three seconds remaining in overtime on Tuesday, Jan. 13, and then Cloudland saw Hampton break open the game as the team ran to an 84-45 victory inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium on Friday, Jan. 17.
On Tuesday, Cloudland led the way until the final seconds against the Longhorns. Zac Benfield scored six early points to help the ‘Landers take a 12-10 lead into the second quarter. In the second quarter, Cloudland kept the Longhorns at bay as it outscored the visitors 11-10 to take a 23-20 lead at the half.
The third quarter saw neither team able to get anything going in the opening minutes. However, Preston Benfield drained a shot at the buzzer to send the ‘Landers up five points going to the final quarter.
