Lawnmower racing returns to Heritage Park Saturday

The spills, thrills and excitement of lawnmower racing is coming back to Avery County.

Carolina Mower Racing Association opens its 2013 racing season at Heritage Park in Newland this Saturday, June 1, with races beginning at approximately 4 p.m.

Racers will turn RPMs in 14 separate divisions, with trophies awarded for the top-three finishers in each category. Divisions in which racers will compete include Stock class, Junior Stock, Super Stock, Stock Flathead, Modified Flathead, Twin Cylinder Flathead, Powder Puff, Legends, Single Cylinder OHV Less Than 30 cubic inches, Single Cylinder OHV more than 30 cubic inches, V-Twin 34.5 and Less, V-Twin 34.6-38, V-Twin 38-46.5 and Open divisions.
