Softball all-stars split pair of district tournament games

Avery received a great pitching effort from the duo of starter Leah Ricker and reliever Heaven Nelson, as the staff allowed only one hit to keep Watauga's girls' 11-12 Little League softball all-star team's bats quiet. Meanwhile the Avery offense pounded out 11 runs to down Watauga 11-1 on Thursday, June 27, at Watauga High School.

The game was stopped after the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Watauga scored its lone run in the second inning when Taylor Lipford reached third base on a wild pitch. She scored after stealing home when Avery was not paying attention to her at third.
