Following the most-successful tenure in the history of Avery High School Lady Vikings varsity basketball, AHS girls head basketball coach Missy Lyons announced on Monday, April 8, that she is resigning as head coach, but intends to continue her teaching position with the school.

"I feel I've been doing this for quite a long time, counting all the years with my middle school, it has been about 20 years. Just for myself and my family, it was important for a change and a little break to take place and be able to do something different," Lyons said in a phone interview briefly after the decision became official. "I thought maybe it was time to let somebody else take over and bring new energy and new things to the program."
