Middle school sports roundup

On Thursday, May 2, Cranberry Middle School welcomed the other five conference schools to Avery High School for the TRC Track Championships.

East Yancey Middle School won first place in the boys meet, with a score of 102 points. Bowman took home second place with 88 points, with Harris Middle School finishing third with 80 team points.

Avery Middle School paced the girls teams in last week's meet with 115 points. Cane River followed close behind in second place with 111 points, with East Yancey earning 80 points for third place.

All-Conference selections for track and field were announced following the meet, with the following student-athletes earning honors:
Avery Middle School: D.C. Braswell, Libby Phillips and Kara Polsgrove
Bowman Middle School: Justin Greene, Cole Burleson and Megan Dellinger
Cane River Middle School: Justin Keener, Isaiah Buchanan, Ciera Chandler, Alex Boone and Morgan Peterson
Cranberry Middle School: Van McCollum and Maddie Barinowski
East Yancey Middle School: Trey Robinson, Corey Presnell Matthew Penley, Haley Penland and Tia Davis
Harris Middle School: Brody Smith, Dustin Sparks, Eden Phillips and Emma Duncan
