Avery Middle School soccer earned its fifth win of the season on Thursday, Oct. 10, earning a 4-0 victory against Bowman. AMS’s Blake Williams started the scoring barrage with a goal in the ninth minute for a 1-0 lead. Teammate Nash Green scored five minutes later off an assist from Aidan Betz to take a 2-0 lead.
In the 21st minute, Green found the back of the net for a second goal to stake the Panthers to a 3-0 lead.
The Panthers took only four minutes to bury another goal, as Jaden Burleson scored in the 25th minute off an assist from Megan Shell for a 4-0 halftime lead. Neither team scored in the second half, giving the Panthers the shutout victory.
Avery finished its season with a 5-3 overall record, and head coach Phillip Greene was pleased with the progress the team made throughout the season.
“I felt the season wrapped up well. We played hard and had the chance to give players experience at different positions on the field to help them prepare moving forward,” Greene said. “I’m proud of the way that they played this year. I can’t say enough about the way this team performed, and I was especially proud of the sportsmanship they displayed this season. The team played clean, even when it seemed the opponent was not doing the same.”
