Mitchell football looks to rally after pair of conference losses

The Mitchell Mountaineers football team has faced its fair share of adversity, including injuries to a number of players and a struggle to find consistency.
MHS took on the conference’s top two teams in consecutive weeks, falling on Friday, Oct. 4, by a 62-6 final score in Ledger, and 62-7 to Polk County in a matchup on Friday, Oct. 11, in Columbus.
Jager Gardner continued his tear through the conference, as the Owen running back tallied 293 yards rushing on 15 rushes, with four touchdowns.
Britt Burleson paced the Mountaineers attack with 74 yards on eight carries. Mitchell scored its lone tally in the game against Owen when quarterback Cole Burleson connected with Oscar Cruz for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 2:02 to play in the fourth quarter.
