Avery Vikings senior defensive back and North Carolina Prep Football News preseason 1A All-State Team selection Ty Polsgrove's season has ended before it had a chance to truly begin.
During a one-on-one defensive coverage drill at Vikings football camp last week, Polsgrove landed awkwardly after leaping to defend a pass. Polsgrove sustained a broken hip and underwent several hours of surgery on Tuesday, July 30, at Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem, where surgeons installed two plates and eight screws to repair the injury.
"A kid like Ty is someone you can't replace. His athletic ability, character, leadership, just everything about Ty is irreplaceable," Avery head football coach Darrell Brewer said. "If you could mold a kid you'd want to coach, you'd have 50 kids like Ty on your team. As bad as a loss as it is for Avery football, I feel so badly for him. He's such a competitor and hard worker, and his senior year is lost. I just hate it, and it's a shame."
