"We have to rebound."
Those were the words of Avery Vikings head coach Darrell Brewer following his team's disappointing 12-6 loss at the hands of the neighboring Cloudland Highlanders last week. The Vikings mustered only 64 total yards against the 'Landers and let multiple opportunity slip through its fingers in its opening-week loss.
For the Vikings to rebound and earn a victory this week, it must visit Marion and go through the 4A McDowell Titans. McDowell's offense was nothing to write home about itself last week in Rutherfordton, as it eked out an 8-7 win on the road at R-S Central.
Avery lost at home by a 47-28 last season to McDowell, but defeated the Titans 28-21 in its last visit to Marion two seasons ago.
Scouting the Titans
The McDowell Titans are members of the Mountain Athletic 4A/3A Conference, and are coached by Carson Gowan. The Titans experienced its most successful season this century last season, finishing with an 8-4 overall record in 2012 and earning a berth in the 4A state playoffs.
