Vikings scores early, often in dispatching Polk

Avery managed only one game in a week wracked by inclement weather, but the club made the most of its outing.

A trio of Vikings scored in double figures as the Big Red built an early double-digit lead and never looked back as it upended the visiting Polk County Wolverines by the final score of 73-50 in Viking Gym on Friday, Jan. 31.

A hot first quarter by the tandem of James Stewart and Chance Watson propelled AHS to a 10-point lead at 24-14 after one quarter. The Vikings then utilized its smothering defense and press to force a number of difficult shots from the Wolverines. Avery held Polk to only five points in the second period and scored 17 points itself in the stanza, the final pair coming on a Watson reverse slam dunk as time expired in the half, to stake the home team to 41-19 halftime lead.
