Women's golf takes second at Western Highlands Conference tournament

Avery Vikings women's golf carded a team score of 589 for last week's two-day conference tournament, earning second place behind Hendersonville, which won the championship with a team score of 543. Mountain Heritage finished third with a score of 671, while Polk County carded a 694 for fourth place.

In individual competition, Hendersonville's Julia Townsend earned medalist honors with a two-round score of 163. The full list of All-Western Highlands Conference golfers includes Avery's Paige Church, who finished second overall by carding a two-round score of 171, HHS's Kelly Jackson (184) and Courtney Simpkins (196), Jessica Hamlin of Owen (196) and Avery's Devyn Plyler (202).

Church, Plyler and Bridgette Smith have qualified for the regional tournament, held earlier this week.

Cross country competes at Western Highlands Conference meet

Avery sent a sizable contingent to run in last week's conference cross-country meet in Hendersonville.
