Avery wrestling concluded its regular season schedule last week with a pair of dual meets against stiff competition.
The Vikings celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday, Jan. 24, with its home finale against Hendersonville. Avery fought with passion, but it was the Bearcats that emerged victorious by a dual final score of 54-30.
Earning victories for the Big Red were Preston Childress (106 pounds), Devin Clark (113 pounds), Justin Gragg (120 pounds), Harley Rash (126 pounds) and Brennan Clark (132 pounds).
Although the dual meet season has been a disadvantage to the Vikings due to youth, the team has continued to fight hard all season long, as younger wrestlers continue to improve.
The Vikings traveled to Polk for its final dual meet of the regular season on Friday, Jan. 27. The Wolverines continued to show why it has been a force in the conference this season, defeating Avery by a 58-12 final match score.
Winners in bouts for Avery included Silva Alexis, who won by forfeit at 106 pounds, and Justin Gragg with a first period fall against Polk’s Chris Meeks at 120 pounds.
Avery will take to the mat this Friday, Feb. 3, when it hosts the Western Highlands Conference Tournament. Action will begin at 5 p.m.
