                  College Description
    Mayland Community College is a small, comprehensive     community college located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.  The College serves over 8,000   general education, vocational, and technical students each year through curriculum and continuing education classes.  The College is one of the 58 institutions in the North Carolina Community College System and serves an area of                   approximately 50,000 persons. Total annual institutional FTE is 2,000.
    Job Description
    Biology instructor will report to the Dean of Arts and           Sciences.  The biology instructor position is a 9-month        position with possible adjunct employment during summer semester. This position requires a full-time teaching load as outlined in Mayland Community College's policies. Job duties include instructing courses, maintaining regularly scheduled office hours, preparing for the courses, evaluating student work, academic advising, furnishing data/reports using         appropriate forms and formats, and fulfilling other duties as needed.  The biology instructor will be accountable for quality instruction and effective participation and interest in the     affairs of Mayland Community College.
    The successful candidate must possess the following: (Show these and related qualifications on application.)
    Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Biology or Masters' with 18              graduate hours in Biology from an accredited              institution
  • One year of related teaching experience
  • Effective working knowledge of personal computers,       including Microsoft Office Suite, interne, and email       services
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with members of the Board of Trustees, college staff, students, and with the general public, including Department of     Corrections personnel
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with     other employees
  • Considerable discretion in the handling of confidential    information and sensitive materials
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of       Mayland Community College
                      Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • Online course development delivery experience
  • Graduate hours in Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, and/or Chemistry
  • Work experience in medical field
  • Training in education/classroom instruction
